Missenden Abbey in Great Missenden is in the Chilterns, between Aylesbury and Amersham, just 30 miles from central London. It is in 10 acres of lanscaped gardens and a lovely place to stay.

The original parts are 12th Century and has been owned by Buckinghamshire Council since 1946 for adult education. It was completely restored in the late 1980s after a fire. It is now part of Buckinghamshire New University.

The absolute highlight for me was Hazel Jones' course 'Jane Austen's World'. I don't know which impressed me more: Hazel's profound knowledge of Jane Austen's life, works and times or her gift of making us feel both concentrated and at ease. At any time we could ask questions or make comments. At the end of this week we all felt we could have done with many more hours of Hazel's course.
