Hazel currently runs her courses at four residential centres for adults in quiet, pleasant surroundings, where facilities are comfortable and the food good. The programmes are designed to promote a better understanding of Jane Austen's novels in the historical and social contexts in which they were written and read. Hazel's intention is that those who come on her courses return home keen to re-read the novels with a deeper appreciation of Jane Austen's genius. The courses are divided into sessions with particular themes and a variety of teaching methods is used - readings, illustrations, discussion and informal lectures - with plenty of opportunities for course members to participate. Depending on the course and venue, visits to Bath, Chawton, Steventon, Lyme and Sidmouth may be arranged as part of the programme. Hazel is always interested in holding courses in other areas of the country and will be happy to hear from you if you have any proposals. She will also deliver shorter courses, talks and guided walks. The links below give an outline of Hazel's longer courses.
